About the course

Ashray Akruti has offered a Diploma course in Special Education (HI) since 2015 to develop special educators trained to provide quality education to children with hearing loss.

The two-year programme, recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), Delhi, is available to Intermediate students who secure a minimum of 50% in English and Regional languages. The course combines classroom lectures, hands-on project work and practical exposure in the field.

Eligibility

Students who have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) or equivalent with 50% in their exams are eligible for the course.

Duration

Two years: four semesters of 220 days and 1320 hours each year, for a total of 440 days and 2640 hours of theory and practicum.

Medium of instruction

English / Regional language.

General framework

The diploma course consists of 4 core papers and 8 additional papers pertaining to specific disability areas. Though the number of papers pertaining to disability specialisations may vary, the core papers are common across the specialisation areas. Each paper has a total of 90 hours for curriculum transaction.

Methodology

Lectures, demonstration, project work, discussions, exposure visits to different schools and rehabilitation projects, participation in community meetings, medical camps and community development programmes, and practice-teaching in disability intervention programmes at grassroots level.
