The cochlear implant surgeries followed up with intense auditory verbal therapy has helped develop speech and listening skills among hearing impaired children and attend formal schools along with other hearing children..
A cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing in both ears. When a person loses hearing, cochlear implants make it possible to restore their ability to hear. Hearing through a cochlear implant is different from normal hearing and takes time to learn or relearn. However, it allows many people to recognize warning signals, understand other sounds in the environment, and understand speech in person or over the telephone.
Established in 1996, Ashray Akruti is a registered, non-religious, non-governmental and non-profit organisation committed to supporting people with disabilities with a special focus on children with hearing loss. Ashray Akruti has been working on impactful projects across multiple locations in India to enable persons with disabilities, empower them, and improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries.
